Dr. Prosper Akaba appointed as Director General for GGSA

A geological engineer, Dr. Prosper Aduah Akaba has been appointed the new Acting Director General of the Ghana Geological Survey Authority, marking a new era for Ghana’s geoscience resource center.

His appointment has been widely applauded across industry and academia as part of government strategic move to reset the country’s mineral resource sector.

Lands and Natural Resource Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah announced Dr. Akaba’s appointment on Monday 17th November 2025 at a brief ceremony in Accra.

Dr. P. A. Akaba joins the Authority with a strong cross earth science portfolio shaped through leadership, academia and industry practice with both public and private organizations.  

Speaking on his appointment to a pool of GGSA staff, he described the role as both an honor and a responsibility towards shaping the future of GGSA as a bedrock on which all extractive works are founded.

“Personally, it remains an honor to be appointed as the Acting Director-General of this Authority by H.E. the President of Republic of Ghana to serve in the broad framework of the country’s resetting agenda.”

With a deep wealth of knowledge in earth science and considerable experience in industry practice, his inclusion is expected to strengthen the Authority’s operations across the entire country.
