The Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA) Director-General Prosper Aduah Akaba (PhD) and the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation Chief Executive Officer Williams Okofo-Dateh have officially entered into an agreement with a strategic objective to work together to boost the country’s iron and steel industry.

The memorandum of agreement signed on Tuesday 25th November 2025 will allow both parties to operate within a functional framework with a special focus on geoscientific research, geological mapping, mineral resource estimation, as well as expert advisory services.

Analysts have described the move as a positive one that will open up multiple opportunities in the delineation of mineralized zones for strategic exploitation of the Ghana’s earth resources.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Director-General of GGSA, Dr. Prosper Akaba disclosed that the strategic framework agreement aligned with the mandates of both institutions.

“Whiles Act 928 mandates GGSA to conduct geological investigations, undertaking research in the field of geoscience, and furnishing specialized geoscientific services.  Act 988, empowers GIISDEC  to develop and promote an integrated iron and steel industry. Therefore the prime focus of this strategic collaboration   is to boost economic growth of the country.
